CORPUS CHRISTI, TX | OCTOBER 28, 2024 – Vida Caña Rum, owned and operated on
North Padre Island in Corpus Christi, has taken home major honors in the prestigious 2024 San
Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC): including Best in Class: Overproof Rum.
Earlier this year, Vida Caña also secured a Double Gold Medal and an impressive 97-point score for
taste for their Single Barrel Finishing Series Panama 18 Year Rum, finished in a bourbon barrel for 16
months and proofed at 62%. “It’s an honor to be recognized as the best-tasting overproof rum in the world,” said Bryan Tierce, co-owner of Vida Caña Rum. “We knew we had something special, but receiving these awards from such a respected competition is thrilling.” Tierce added, “We entered hoping for recognition, but this goes beyond that. Winning Double Gold—awarded only to spirits that all judges unanimously score as Gold—along with a 97 out of 100 for taste, and now Best in Class for overproof rum? This is a huge moment for us.”


Founded in 2019 by two lifelong friends and North Padre Island residents, Vida Caña Rum is
inspired by the laid-back, coastal lifestyle of the world’s great rum regions. Their passion for exceptional
rum led to the release of the Single Barrel Finishing Series in 2022, further elevating their brand.
The SFWSC, organized by the Tasting Alliance, was founded in 2000 to recognize outstanding
products in the spirits industry. It is the oldest and largest competition of its kind, with a panel of 70 expert judges who blind-taste spirits from across the globe. This year, more than 5,500 spirits were submitted, 280 of which were rums.
