THANK YOU.
This scholarship has allowed me to pay for my tuition this semester without taking out any loans. This is amazingly helpful as I won’t be in a large amount of debt when I graduate.
WHY I CHOSE MY AREA OF STUDY:
I found I really enjoyed chemistry when I took my introductory courses, and since I disliked my first choice of major, I changed to chemistry thinking I’d like it more. I’ve always been science and math-minded, and I liked the combination of those that studying chemistry provides.
MY PROFESSIONAL GOALS:
I don’t have lofty goals, but I’d love a job that I enjoy that allows me to support myself. I might go to graduate school after graduating to explore my newly discovered passion for genetics, but before that, I want to find a good job so I can save up some money.
WHY I LOVE BEING AN ISLANDER:
After going to UT Austin for a few semesters before returning to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, I realized just how different the atmosphere is at the Island University. At UT, they have students lining up to go there, and if they lose one student, it’s no big loss, they have plenty to replace them. Here, professors treat you like you’re important, and they care about your wellbeing and that you’re learning. The campus at A&M is a relaxed place of support and learning, not a place where you go to study until you’re miserable. I love being an Islander because it matches my preferred way to learn—focusing on learning itself, not just grades or the image of the university.
